Revised 11/15/81
Mine Facilities
The mine facilities which are present at the Maxwell Mine are shown on
the Mine Plan Map (Map 3). These facilities were constructed during
1976 prior to the opening of the Maxwell Mine. A listing of these
facilities, as shown in Table 11, Surface Facilities, reviews the
general type of facility which is present and required to operate the
Maxwell Mine during the permit term.
In general , the buildings are constructed of structural steel and sheet
metal with associated concrete footers and floors. These buildings are
not expected to be modified during the near term of the permit and are
used to house the maintenance, production, and administrative
operations. Maintenance of these structures is primarily by general
procedures common to the coal mining industry. CF&I Steel Corporation
strives to maintain a safe and productive work environment for its
personnel . Through the continued good maintenance and general upkeep of
the facilities, the working environment made available to the personnel
is enhanced. Cleanliness and good housekeeping are part of the normal
routines being utilized to maintain the structures in a good condition.
The coal processing waste banks are constructed based on the design
covered in the coal processing waste portion of this Section to ensure
that failure of these structures is not possible. The slopes and shafts
which are required for the operation of the Maxwell Mine are maintained
through normal safe mining practices. Construction of these facilities
has been through normal state of the art industry standards to ensure
that the structures can be utilized for the life of the operation and
for continued safe, efficient operation.
Because all structures located at the Maxwell Mine are relatively new,
each is in good operating condition. CF&I Steel Corporation plans to
continue to keep these structures in a good, safe operating condition
through normal day to day maintenance of them.
Upon completion and termination of the Maxwell Mining operation, CF&I
Steel Corporation plans to salvage and remove all structures associated
2.05-8
