Revised 11/15/81
A regional hydrologic study has been completed to assess the hydrologic
impact of the area. This report is shown in Exhibit 6, Hydrology and
Geology Information and has been developed by Water, Waste, and Land
Limited. The sedimentation ponds and associated diversion ditches have
been designed with regard to Section 4.05.6 and Section 4.05.9 of the
Regulations for Coal Mining. In addition, the diversion structures have
been designed utilizing the requirements of 4.05.3 and 4.05.4. Typical
sections of the emergency spillways and embankments of each sediment
control structure are shown in Figure 4. Figure 5 shows typical
diversion ditch cross sections. Table 12 shows the dimensions of each
constructed diversion structure located on the Sediment and Surface
Water Control Plan Map (Map 13) . The design of each sediment control
structure located on the Sediment and Surface Water Control Plan Map
(Map 13) is. shown in Table 13, Sediment Control Structures Dimensions.
Topsoil
All topsoil material which is located in the area which will be
disturbed by surface mining operations at the Maxwell Mine will be
removed prior to disturbance in that area. CF&I Steel Corporation
currently plans to disturb only additional area as required for
placement of coal processing waste as shown on the Mine Plan Map (Map 3)
during the term of the permit. Particular care will be taken to ensure
that topsoil material is removed prior to the disturbance of the arL-a.
The topsoil distribution which currently exists outside of the disturbed
area at the Maxwell Mine is shown on the Soils Map (Map 14). In
addition, depths of topsoil , subsoil , and other material are located on
this Map.
Soil material will be removed in preparation for expanding the coal
processing waste or refuse disposal area. Table 14, Topsoil Mass
Balance, shows the anticipated schedule of topsoil removal and
replacement during the permit term.
2.05-14
