Revised 11/15/81
with the mine. Because the life of the mine is anticipated to be in
excess of 40 years, no removal of existing structures is currently
anticipated within the permit term. Upon completion of the mining
operation, all structural steel buildings will be salvaged for later use
or for sale. Concrete footings, slabs, and other items which cannot be
reused will be buried on site or hauled to the local sanitary landfill
for disposal . The access to the coal seams through the slopes or shafts
will be sealed at the surface with structurally competent material to
prevent access to these openings. Roads and surface water control
structures will also be removed. In general , these areas will be gently
sloped and rounded to conform to the existing topography of the area and
revegetated to meet the requirements of Section 2.05.4. The reclamation
of these structures is reviewed in detail in Section 2.05.4 of this
application.
Other structures which have been constructed incident to the surface
disturbance required at the Maxwell Mine consist of light use and access
roads to the mine facilities and sediment control structures consisting
of ditches and sediment ponds. The roads and surface water control
structures are shown on the Roads Map (Map 12) , and the Mine Hydrology
Map (Map 9). Figure 2 shows the typical cross section of all existing
light use and access roads. The locations of all light use and access
roads are also shown on the Roads Map (Map 12). CF&I Steel Corporation
does not plan to alter or change the configuration of these roads during
the permit term. The construction of these roads was completed during
or prior to 1976 when the Maxwell Mine was begun. Locations of ditches,
culverts, and other associated surface water control structures
associated with the roads are shown on the Mine Hydrology Map (Map 9)
and the Sediment and Surface Water Control Plan Map (Map 13). The
access road which CF&I Steel Corporation employees utilize to travel
from the state highway to the surface facilities has been designed and
constructed under permit from the Colorado Department of Highways. The
construction specifications were approved by the Colorado Department of
Highways prior to the construction of this structure.
2.05-10
