Revised 11/15/81
the site specific suitability of each major soil horizon for all three
soil types which may be removed is shown in Exhibit 11, Soils
Information. Depths to which topsoil and subsoil will be removed prior
to disturbance are shown on the Soils Map (Map 10).
2.04.10 Vegetation Information
A vegetation map has been prepared which shows the area- which is
affected by the Maxwell Mine surface facilities and additional area
which will be disturbed within the permit term. The various plant
communities are delineated based on aerial mapping and field mapping
which has been completed by Uniscale, Corporation. Uniscale has
conducted two extensive surveys of the areas around the surface
facilities to determine species composition, cover, productivity, and
woody plant density. A Vegetation Map (Map 11) has been prepared which
delineates each plant community. In addition, the reference areas which
have been selected are also shown on Map 11.
The area which the surface facilities of the Maxwell Mine currently
occupies was disturbed in 1976. Vegetative baseline information was not
collected prior to disturbance of this area. However, adjacent areas to
the permit area have been sampled to determine the species composition,
cover, productivity, and woody plant density and are statistically
compared with the selected reference areas. Methods which have been
used to sample the existing plant communities and select the reference
areas are discussed by Uniscale and shown in Exhibit 12, Vegetation
Information.
During the sampling and field work conducted by Uniscale, no rare and
endangered plant species were encountered. Therefore, no impacts of
these species are expected. Due to the small area which will be
disturbed during the term of the permit, relatively little impact of any
plant species present is expected.
2.04-15
