Revised 11/15/81
2.03.8 Permit Term Information
The Maxwell Mine began production in March of 1977. Actual construction
of the mine facility was begun in February of 1976. The Maxwell Mine is
expected to continue operation for approximately 40 years, or through
2020. During the next five year term of the permit, approximately 300
acres will be affected by underground mining. During the life of the
mine, approximately 6,500 acres will be affected by underground mining
methods. Surface facilities for the underground operations have
disturbed approximately 51.50 acres in 1976 and 1977. CF&I Steel
Corporation does not anticipate any additional disturbance other than
that required for disposal of coal processing waste material . Areas
which will be affected for mining and reclamation during the permit term
and the life of the mine are shown in Table 4, Affected Areas for Mining
and Reclamation. The horizontal extent of the proposed underground mine
workings for the permit term and the life of the mine are shown on the
Mine Plan Map (Map 3) . Underground operations at the Maxwell Mine will
be in the Maxwell Seam. The location of the Maxwell Seam with respect
to the other coal seams and surface are shown in Figure 1, Typical
Stratigraphic Section.
2.03.9 Personal Injury and Property Damage Insurance Information
CF&I Steel Corporation, through Crane Company, maintains personal injury
and property damage insurance. A copy of the insurance policies
covering the Maxwell Mine is shown in Exhibit 1, Certificate of
Insurance.
2.03.10 Identification of Other Licenses and Permits
Numerous licenses and permits have been obtained for the continued
operation of the Maxwell Mine. Table 5, Other Licenses and Permits,
shows the listing of permits which CF&I Steel Corporation has obtained
during the past five years to permit operation of the Maxwell Mine.
2.03-19
