The great heterogeneity in herbaceous ground cover in <br /> those types is due to the high percentage of canopy cover, <br /> contributing to areas of very high and very low ground cover. <br /> The reference area proved to have herbaceous plant <br /> production intermediate between the two affected types. Cover <br /> is much higher on the reference area . None-the-less , the <br /> selected reference area is rather typical of grasslands in the <br /> vicinity of the disposal area , and is expected to be <br /> representative of conditions which should results from proper <br /> reclamation practices on the tailings disposal area, when <br /> subsequently subjected to typical stocking rates for livestock <br /> in the area. <br />
