be from a well in the in -situ overburden up- gradient of disturbance areas (GW -N38) or it <br />can be from a well down - gradient of the disturbance area prior to mining (pre -mine GW- <br />N18). <br />As can be seen in Table 5, Figure 1, and Figure 2, the ground water well GW -N38 has <br />rarely had any water in it to sample over the past 10 to 15 years. This limits its usefulness <br />in this comparison. There is hardly ever any ground water in this well because the recharge <br />area is very small, and surface water that infiltrates would quicky reach the Dakota Coal <br />and flow southwest on towards a hydrologic low point. Since there is no irrigation <br />immediately around the well, very little water enters it. There is some data available from <br />GW -N38, and the comparison of this data with data from GW -N18 is shown in Table 6. <br />SL -14 03DEC12.wpd 59 <br />
