2.5 STEEL STRUCTURES PAINTING COUNCIL <br /> Steel Structures Painting Manual, Volume 2 <br /> 3 MATERIALS <br /> 3.1 OUTLET WORKS SLUICE GATE, GATE OPERATOR AND FITTINGS <br /> 3.1.1 The outlet sluice gate shall be a fifteen-inch by fifteen-inch <br /> (15"x 15") reservoir sluice gate, rated at 45 feet seating head <br /> (minimum), HydroGate Model No. 501 mounted on an F-Type wall <br /> thimble, or approved equal. A forty-five degree (451) bevel <br /> (bullnose) shall be utilized at the bottom edge of the slide to <br /> accommodate throttling under high head conditions. The gate and <br /> frame shall be constructed of the #1 Material Combination as <br /> specified by HydroGate. <br /> 3.1.2 The gate stem shall be 1.5-inch diameter, and shall be constructed <br /> of carbon steel meeting the requirements of ASTM A 36, except <br /> for the exposed end sections. The exposed end sections, which <br /> pass through the oil seals in the casing pipe, shall be stainless <br /> steel meeting the requirements of ASTM A 276, Type 304. One <br /> end section shall be threaded for the lift operating mechanism. <br /> 3.1.3 The gate, operator lift mechanism and stem assembly including <br /> stem guides shall meet the requirements of AWWA C501. The <br /> operator lift mechanism shall be capable of lifting the gate with no <br /> more than a 25 pound pull on the crank with 34 feet of reservoir <br /> head (normal water level), and with no more than a 40 pound pull <br /> with 45 feet of reservoir head. <br /> 3.1.4 The gate stem shall be installed in an oil-filled encasement. The <br /> stem encasement pipe shall meet the requirements of Specifica- <br /> tion C, Piping. <br /> 3.1.5 The Contractor shall provide one each of the gate, stem assembly <br /> and hand operator lift mechanism as well as all integral bolts, <br /> fasteners, anchor bolts and studs required for the assembly of the <br /> SPEC.
