^ r
Letter to Jay Jones -8- November 29 1995
cannot be ruled out, and that ground water discharges, along with
fugitive dust, would not be completely captured by the treatment
system. Climax Mine ground water issues are being handled through
technical revision TR-08 that is currently under review.
18. Mine pumps inby of the Storke Portal are alluded to in the EPP
application. Narrative included in Appendix F to the application
indicates that if these pumps are down, that discharge from the
portal would be collected by the east flume to the Storke Waste
Water Pumping Station. Please provide details on the location and
operation of these pumps.
19. In section 5.3 .2 of the EPP application, it is stated that
precipitates (water treatment sludges) are contained within the
Mayflower impoundment. Please correlate the rate of accumulation of
the precipitates with the storage capacity available in the
Mayflower impoundment.
20. In section 5.4. 2 of the EPP application, it ,is stated that the Eagle
Park Reservoir seepage collection and pump station will remain in
place and fully functional until such time as seepage from beneath
the dam meets water quality standards for discharge. Once the EPP
application is approved by the Division, operation of the Eagle Park
Reservoir seepage collection and pump station will be a performance
requirement of the Permit and Reclamation Plan. Discontinuance of
operation and removal of the Eagle Park Reservoir seepage collection
and pump station would have to be preceded by an approval from the
Division in accordance with the terms of Rule 7.2 . 11 of the Mineral
Rules and Regulations. This would be the case for all of the
Environmental Protection Facilities identified in the EPP.
21. In section 5.5. 1 of the EPP application, the statement is made that
a ground water monitoring well (#5 Shaft Monitoring Well) has been
installed adjacent to the pump station to monitor the quantity and
quality of water at No. 5 Shaft. It was the Division's
understanding that the #5 Shaft Monitoring Well was not completed in
such a way that it could be used for monitoring water quality.
Please clarify this issue.
As we have discussed, a meeting to discuss issues related to the EPP's and
the ground water programs for Henderson and Climax would be beneficial and
productive. Please contact me to schedule such a meeting, or if you have
any questions.
Sincerely,
Allen C. Sorenson
Reclamation Specialist C:\WP51\CLIMEPP.ADQ
