STIPULATION 3
A. Water Removed from the Purgatoire River
Water removed from the Purgatoire River for use in the mine is dependent upon the
mine production rate. The estimate is based on 80 pounds of water required per ton of
coal mined at the present projection of 45,000 tons per month production. This yields a
requirement of 19,700 gallons per operating day or consumptive use of the mine.
B. Water Discharged from the Surface Plant
The following estimate is based on total employment of 150 people and 100 gallons
per day per person. The source of this water is the Trinidad water line. Water use would
be 15,000 gallons per day which would be treated following use and discharged.
C. Mine Water Discharge
Water made in the mine is pumped to the surface, clarified and discharged. This
discharge has varied from 31 gpm when the mine is idle to 70 gpm when at 2,000 tons per
day production. It is estimated that 70 gpm of mine discharge water will be generated
when mining resumes.
SUMMARY
Gallons/Day
Operating Day Calendar Day
From River (all consumed) 19,700 14,070
Discharge
From Treatment Plant 15,000 10,714
From Mine 100,000 100,800
