RE: iminary Groundwater Monitorin,Plan for Permit Nos. M -77 -493 and
M -77 -342
Dear Mr. Jones:
The Division of Minerals and Geology has reviewed your preliminary groundwater
monitoring plans for these two operations in September. These plans were
requested to fulfill the requirements of Senate Bill 181 Groundwater Rules.
The rule requires the operator to establish ambient water quality for the site
and place monitoring locations for upgradient and down gradient points as
approved by the Division. Two discussions were held at the Division in which
you were present. During these meetings a discussion was held on how to best
define the ground water source for the area and possible monitoring locations
for the site to fulfill the requirements of the Colorado Mined Land
Reclamation Act 6.2(3)(f) and (g) in a timely manner.
As outlined in your letter to pie Division of September 1, 1993, the following
conditions were agreed by bottf the Division and the operator.
1. Document the depth to pre - cambrian bedrock on the north boundary of
Tailings Basin.
2. If possible, determine ground water direction of flow.
3. Determine the hydraulic conductivity of the ground water flow thorough
glacial material if possible.
4. Sample and submit analysis of spring and gravel pits exposing groundwater
in some general area to determine if the ponded water is from the same
aquifer.
5. Carefully establish the water elevation at these points for purpose of
determining gradient in the aquifer and the direction of flow.
The Division has accepted what you submitted in September as only a
preliminary groundwater monitoring plan to be adjusted as necessary. I had
