I have also attached an October 9 letter from W. W. Wheeler
&Associates that discusses the criteria upon which Climax will construct the
embankment collars and pipe passage.
The containment passage begins on the east side of 4-Dam with a 4 inch perforated
pipe laid between STA. 16+80 and STA. 17+20. The perforated pipe will be imbedded
into the lined trench to a clay barrier positioned at the emergency spillway and above
high water mark of the Eagle Park Reservoir at STA. 16+80. At the clay barrier, a
transition from perforated pipe to solid wall drain pipe will be constructed. The solid wall
pipe will convey containment waters across the spillway and through 2 concrete collars
at STA's 15+00 and 15+30 to STA. 14+20. There will then be another transition to
perforated pipe at the west side of the dam extending 30 feet into gravel bedding and
lined trench. I have attached topographic and cross sectional stationing as weii as a
pipe trench section and cutoff collar detail for your records.
Please contact me if you have any questions. Climax will provide a certification report to
follow these modifications.
Sincerely,
Bryce R. Romig
Environmental Coordinator
Climax Mine and Mill
