at 6 .7 to 7.4. This spring is not significant to surface flow
and only has value for livestock and wildlife watering in the
spring of the year.
Spring #16 : Ciruela Canyon (Table 6) . Flow originates from
the interface of shale and sandstone and was measurable on 8 of
the 10 samplings ranging from <1 to 3 gpm. On all occasions flow
was absorbed into the alluvium within 100 yards of the source and
does not appear to contribute significantly to surface flow.
Conductivity and pH ranged from 780 to 984 and 6 . 4 to 8 . 0 ,
respectively. The spring does provide livestock and wildlife
water, however, is not that important due to the location of a
stock pond 200 yards upstream.
Spring #17 : North of Ciruela Canyon (Table 7) . This is a
minor seep from the interface of shale and sandstone located in a
small canyon on the north side of Highway 12. Flow was measured
on 8 of the 10 samplings at 1 or less gpm. Conductivity ranged
from 820 to 1148 , and pH ranged from 5. 9 to 8 .7 . In all cases,
the flow was absorbed into the alluvium within 200 yards of the
source contributing very little to surface flow. The seep is
valuable for livestock and wildlife watering.
Spring #18 : Parras Canyon (Table 8 ) . The spring originates
from the interface of shale and sandstone measuring from 1 to 3
gpm. During the August 1984 sampling flow was measured at 50
gpm, however, localized thunderstorms were contributing to
surface runoff in the upper reaches of the canyon. Conductivity
and pH ranged from 420 to 560 and 5 . 9 to 8 . 4 , respectively.
Present use of the spring is livestock and wildlife watering,
while contributing little to overall surface flow.
Spring #19 : At Middle Fork of Purgatoire (Table 9 ) . Flow
originating from fractured shale and sandstone was measured at <1
to 4 gpm on 7 of the 10 samplings. In all cases, the flow was
absorbed within 300 yards of the source . Conductivity ranged
-78-
