5. 0 MONITORING PROGRAMS FOR 1990
Surface and ground water sampling to be conducted during 1990
will be similar to that of 1989 . Stations added to the program during
1988 included well PAW-7 and Pond 005 associated with the Golden Eagle
Mine discharge, and stations LCS-1, WCS-1 and CHC-1 associated with
permit area expansions of the Golden Eagle Mine. Because of continued
activity both underground and on the surface, monthly, quarterly and
annual data will be gathered at the mines and adjacent areas. This
data will be used to further assess potential impacts of mine
operations and effects on the existing hydrologic balance. As a
result of the temporary sealing of the New Elk Mine, no monitoring
will be conducted at Station MDNE-1 during 1990. Proposed stations
and parameters to be monitored during 1990 are included in Tables 1
and 2 . No changes in the program are currently proposed, however,
during 1990 WFC may find it necessary to further modify this program.
In this event, WFC will notify the Division in writing.
-22-
