On August 18, 1997, an inspection was
conducted at the Climax Mine to investigate your concerns, and the enclosed
inspection report has been filed. As the inspection report describes, the
discharging concrete pipe is internal to the Climax Mine water management and
treatment system, resulting in no pollutant loading to waters of the state .
In your letter dated July 31, 1997, you also requested information about a
discharge to Clear Creek located below the Argo Mill at Idaho Springs . This
discharge is not associated with any mining operation permitted by the Mined
Land Reclamation Board under the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Act, as
such, the Division of Minerals and Geology has no information to provide you
regarding this discharge. You may wish to contact the United States
Environmental Protection Agency for information on remediation efforts
related to the Argo Tunnel and the Argo Mill .
If I may be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Allen C.
