(Page 3)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-77-493
INSPECTION DATE 7/2/98 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ACS
that all 4-Dam seepage is being collected and routed to the ponds. 4-Dam seepage that would
not flow into the ponds by gravity is captured in pipes and routed to the upper collection
pond.
The 1-Dam toe seepage was inspected. The operator has constructed a coffer dam to isolate the
toe seepage from the greater part of Robinson Lake. This coffer dam is interior to the
Robinson Dam environmental protection facility, and as such is not itself an environmental
protection facility under the Hard Rock/Metal Mining Rules. 1-Dam toe seepage collected behind
the coffer dam spills into a concrete drop box and is routed through an HDPE pipe to Warren's
Pump Station. The coffer dam is lined with a geocomposite liner which is tied into underlying
clay strata. The construction of the coffer dam and resultant toe seepage collection pond
(Tim's Pond) will provide information of the potential to isolate Pobinson Lake from 1-Dam
seepage in order to ultimately reclaim Robinson Lake to the aproved use of developed water
recourse, and may also provide useful information on the chemical compatibility of the
bentonite in the geocomposite liner with the 1-Dam seep water.
The 3-Dam face reclamation project completed in 1997 was inspected. The dam face was graded
to an overall slope of less than 3 :1 and capped with natural fill. The area was then drill
seeded and mulched with weed-free straw. The mulch was held in place by hydraulically applied
tackifier. A very high density of seed germination was observed indicating good early stage
success for 3-Dam revegetation. It was observed that the upper portions of the reclaimed dam
face are going to be subject to problems with covering by wind carried tailings from Ten Mile
Pond. Climax is considering a number of options for better dust control in addition to the
Coherex applications currently in use. These options may include watering and new generation
palliatives.
I & E Contact Address cc: Carl Mount, DMG
❑ CE
NAME Bryce Romig ❑ BL
OPERATOR Climax Molybdenum Company ❑ FS
STREET Climax Mine ❑ HW
CITY/STATE/ZIP Climax, CO ❑ HMWMD (CH)
❑ SE
❑ WQCD (CH)
❑ OTHER
