PROCESS DESCRIPTION
A lime hydroxide precipitation/dissolved air process is
utilized to treat the Mt Emmons-Keystone Mine discharge water .
The process produces a precipitate containing relatively high
concentrations of metallic compounds . The precipitate is
dewatered and chemically stabilized ( fixed) with Portland
cement at the treatment facility . The resultant material is
then transported , via commercial carrier , to the Climax Mine
where it is off- loaded at the Clinton Cut-out access of the
Mayflower Treatment Pond , and is subsequently assimilated into
the Climax Mine Water Treatment precipitate (See attached map
in Appendix "B") . Approximately 735 tons of fixed precipitate
are processed and transported annually .
CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTIC OF PRECIPITATE
The precipitate metal assay and Toxic Characteristic Leaching
Procedure (TCLP) data analysis result reports by the Hazen
Researcn , Inc . laboratory , as presented in Appendix "A"
(attached) , are typical .
4 -
