16. Solid Waste Storage
A roll off container for disposal of trash will be located next to the shop. Small trash barrels may
be located near the office and dry -room. The trash will be picked up on a routine basis by a
service company and disposed of at an approved landfill. No landfills will be constructed on site.
Scrap metal will be stored in a bin and/or on pallets near the shop until it can be picked up for
recycling. Used batteries and tires will be stored in the same area and will be picked up and
recycled by vendors.
17. Ventilation Shafts
Three new ventilation shafts are proposed for the mine Each ventilation shaft permit area is 100
feet x 100 feet in size, or 0.23 acres. These locations can be seen on Map C -5. The shafts will all
be installed from within the mine using the same methods as raises. Stripping topsoil from these
shafts prior to construction will not be practical, but any topsoil encountered at the top of the
shafts will be stored in a berm around the shaft exit to reduce surface water runoff inflows into
the shaft. A pad will be constructed at the top of each shaft. This pad will be concrete, 10' x 10'
square and 12 inches thick. The shaft openings will be up to six feet in diameter. The holes will
be cased and grouted as necessary to prevent any water from any potential upper aquifers from
entering the mine workings. Almost all past exploration drilling in the Revenue/Virginius area
has been dry. Once the 960 shaft, Yellow Rose shaft and Monogahela shafts are complete,
secondary escapeway ladders will be installed in each shaft. Waste rock from the shaft
excavation will be brought out through the Revenue tunnel and delivered to the two
tailings /waste rock piles.
None of the three shafts are located within a debris flow area. The only shaft that is located
within an avalanche path is the 960 Shaft. The other two are not located in an avalanche path.
The 960 Shaft is located near the top of an avalanche path and will not see any buildup of snow.
The snow will have passed to locations far lower. The 6 feet diameter opening will see some
snow that enters it, but it will be a small amount. The snow is not a hazard to the mine below
since the shaft is actually on an angle and the snow cannot fall to the bottom. As soon as it
Revenue Mine August 2012 D -24
