ENVIRONMENT, INC. PAGE 3
NOVEMBER 27, 2012
6. Please describe how the Operator will demonstrate the pit walls have been reclaimed to a final
grade of 3H: 1V for the portion of the pit walls which are beneath the static water level.
As noted above, MCAtee would most likely use a boat and elec-
tronic sonar to chart the slopes. Another method would be to use
a range finder and sounding line lowered from a boat.
7. Please provide the Division with a typical cross section which shows the final configuration of the
reclaimed slopes.
Figure AD -3 is a cross section sketch showing the final slope
configuration as you request.
6.5 Geotechnical Stability Exhibit
8. Upon reviewing the Mining and Reclamation Plans, the Division has determined that it will be
necessary to provide an engineering stability analyses for the slope angles during mining and for
the final reclaimed slopes pursuant to Rule 6.5(2). The Applicant has submitted signed damage
waivers for the surrounding permanent man -made structures; however, the Division has concerns
over the stability of the reclaimed slopes given the proximity to Interstate 76.
The Applicant shall demonstrate the long -term stability of the reclaimed slopes through an
engineering stability analyses. The analyses should utilize on -site soil strength parameters based
on available boring data. The analyses must account for any loading on the slopes from either
product/topsoil stockpiles or from equipment and must account for all slope configurations and
elevations. Please provide cross sections which depict the proposed offsets, stockpiles, and slope
ang!cc. Finally, the una,yses (Must rc.ider a safety factor.
Per our discussions McAtee Construction Co. will provided a
Technical Revision including an engineering stability analyses
for the slope angles prior mining south of the Edwards /Gill
Ditch. Said analysis will include information addressing the
properties you suggest in this question.
If you have more questions or need more information after review-
ing my answers please call me. Thanks for your help during the
permitting process.
Sincerely,
Environment, Inc.
V6eE.
Stevan L.
