r
Mr. . Robert Turner
July 11 , 1980
Page Two
The second project is preparation construction for another
primary haul road to the escarpment on the top of Bartlett
Mountain. It is important for us to be allowed to begin con-
struction of this road as soon as possible because of the
extremely short construction seasons at these extreme elevations .
The estimated construction time requirement for the road is
something in excess of eight months. The mining sequence
dictates that the road must be completed by 1982. A good
construction season at these elevations is four months. The
ground conditions are unknown. Unusual problems such as
permafrost are normally encountered on such projects. If we lose
this construction season, the road would probably not be
completed by 1982 . The potential result of not having the road
in place by 1982 is a disruption of mining .
Neither road is on presently designated affected land . In
accordance with rule 1. 9 , Climax wishes to exchange that portion
of affected area 6 indicated on the enclosed map for. the McNulty
road, and that portion of affected area 2 indicated on the
enclosed map for the Bartlett Mountain road . Neither of these
offered lands are actually affected and both are bonded. The
exchange acreages are :
Selected Land Offered Land
McNulty Road - 34 acres Portion of Area 6 - 34 acres
Bartlett Mt. Road - 25 acres Portion of Area 2 - 25 acres
Reclamation of each of the roads will be accomplished in
the same fashion as described for other haul roads in Section 10
of the existing permit.
We appreciate your expeditious review. We have provided as
much lead time as possible under the circumstances and hope the
helicopter facilitates the inspection.
Sincerely,,
` ?.•
Lar.r F. Brown
Deputy Director ,
Environmental Control
LFB/mb
