Description
Design of the Mayflower Tailing Pond and alternatives started in 1968. A
number of upstream dams were analyzed and the Mayflower design was modified
to incorporate the results of these analyses. In addition, environmental
considerations were incorporated from the inception. The tailing system has
been designed to minimize environmental impact and reclamation plans have
been developed.
It is difficult to describe a project of this magnitude without breaking it
into separate portions. The portions will be discussed as follows:
1. Toe dam, drains, and seep water ponds.
2. Cycloning system.
3. Decant line.
4. Mill water return line.
5. Tailing delivery line.
6. Highway relocation.
7. Flood control dam and interceptors.
