4. Mill Water Return System.
Water seepage through drains laid under the tailing dam combines with
water being decanted off the tailing pond water pool, and is collected
in a five million gallon capacity clearwater pond. This pond serves
as a pumping basin for the pump station. Five vertical pumps, each
with a 125 horsepower electric motor, pump directly into five 6,700 gal-
lon per minute horizontal single stage centrifugal pumps. Each of
these larger pumps is driven by a 2,000 horsepower motor. An elaborate
system of pump controls sequences pumps to meet pumping requirements.
This control system also insures that the pumping load is distributed
equally among the five pumps as the demand increases.
The water is pumped back into the existing mill water circuit through
4. 1 miles of 42" I.D. steel pipeline. This pipeline normally operates
at a pressure of 381 pounds per square inch. The pipeline discharges
onto Robinson Tailing Pond, (the highest pond in elevation and the
closest pond to the Mill) , where the water is then pumped to the Mill
using existing facilities.
+
6P
4
Figure 7.
