Climax is appreciative of Y 'll :
999 s contributed to the Climax f
.1'ininc; and Reclamation Plan. We thought the meeting held last Friday was
very beneficial, interesting and stimulating.
I
I
As a result of your written comments submitted to Climax and our discussion
last Friday, both general and specific concerns of the DOW and Climax were
resolved. Hopefully, the general and specific information provided below I
i
will be acceptable to the Mined Land Reclamation Staff as "Additional
Information" to the Climax application.
Climax and Urad experience, research and development of techniques and
diversified plant materials, and piecemeal reclamation of tailing and `
Open Pit waste rock dumps will provide the ground work for a high probability
of reclamation success with low environmental risks. Reclamation to the Open
Woodland concept as it pertains to Climax offers practicality and flexibility
which will allow for future managerial input into a limited multiple use type
of management for both the reclaimed and undisturbed lands in the Climax area.
Though the Open Woodland concept is not specifically directed at wildlife habi-
tat reclamation, indirectly new habitat will be created that will enhance wild-
lift potential. (The Urad Mine trailing ponds were revegetated three years
ago and are a fine example of secondary benefits, specifically wildlife values,
of an Open Woodland type reclamation project.) Additionally, Climax would be
grateful to have the DOW consult and work with us on specific sites amenable to
wildlife habitat reclamation requirements.
Preparation for reclamation of No. 1 Dam and Robinson Tailing Pond will likely
commence within two years. It does not appear at this time that a tailing pond
can or should be reclaimed to a wet meadow. Such a consideration could com-
promise the structural stability of the tailing impoundment; however, dry site
