1.8.7 Recreation <br />• The Project could impact recreational opportunities, such as hunting. <br />1.8.8 Socioeconomics <br />• The Project could burden local infrastructure funded by municipalities, counties, <br />the state, and federal governments. <br />• The Project could have beneficial or adverse effects on the San Miguel and <br />Dolores County economies. <br />• Project activities could adversely impact people living and working in close <br />proximity to Project activities. <br />1.8.9 Soils <br />• The Project may impact soil productivity through compaction and loss of topsoil <br />and may increase erosion potential through the removal of ground cover and /or <br />constructing roads and /or drilling on steep slopes. <br />• Accidental surface spills and releases of drilling fluids, mud additives, and other <br />chemicals or materials used in the proposed operations could contaminate native <br />soils and degrade soil productivity. <br />1.8.10 Federal Endangered, Threatened, and Candidate Species; BLM Sensitive <br />Species and Species of Concern; State of Colorado Endangered and <br />Threatened Species, and Federal Birds of Conservation Concern <br />• Increased noise, traffic, and human presence from Project activities could impact <br />raptor foraging, roosting, breeding, or nesting behavior. <br />• BLM Special Status Species and Birds of Conservation Concern, such as <br />Gunnison sage grouse, and associated habitats could be impacted. <br />• Mexican spotted owl which is federally listed as threatened may be affected by <br />Project activities which are proposed adjacent to potential habitat. <br />1.8.11 Transportation <br />• Project activities would adversely impact local roads and access to private and <br />public lands. <br />1.8.12 Vegetation, Including Invasive Species/Noxious Weeds <br />• Ground disturbances would impact shrub /grass vegetation. <br />• Ground disturbance could spread or introduce invasive species /noxious weeds. <br />• Dolores and San Miguel Counties host a number of rare and BLM sensitive plant <br />species and communities that could be impacted by Project activities. <br />1.8.13 Waste - Hazardous, Fluid, and Solid <br />• Formations containing naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORMs) could <br />be encountered, potentially contaminating water resources, soils, surface <br />conditions, etc. <br />• The Project would generate solid waste that may require special measures for <br />disposal. <br />RM Potash Exploration Project 10 <br />Environmental Assessment <br />
