COMMENTS
This was a partial inspection of the Bear No. 3 Mine conducted by Susan Burgmaier of CDRMS. Weather
conditions at the time of the inspection were clear and warm; ground conditions were very dry. The permit for the
site expired on July 19, 2012,when the operator declined to apply for renewal. The Division has not yet initiated
bond forfeiture proceedings.

The sedimentation pond was dry. The spring at the base of the backfilled portal slope was flowing to the
treatment pond,which was full of water and discharging to the North Fork of the Gunnison River.

The bridge crossing the North Fork of the Gunnison River was in poor condition. The interface between
the bridge and the river banks is eroding, and holes approximately 12"across have developed on each side of the
bridge. The bridge decking is rotting and holes have opened up to the river below.
SLIDES and DAMAGE -Rule 4.12:
No evidence of recent movement was observed on any of the backfilled bench or road slopes.
