The operator states that only in the open pit and aggregate mining
areas is essentially all topsoil stripped. Topsoil salvage is or
should be a top priority item, yet, the operator also states that
other active areas are stripped as equipment is made available and c^s
allowed by project timing. The Division feels that on all areas of
disturbance necessary as part of a mining operation, topsoil must be
stripped and stockpiled prior to disturbance. Please explain the
operators actions and concerns pertaining to this topic. (See E.2t) .
3. Please supply a site specific soil inventory on all areas yet to be
disturbed.
D. Wildlife
1 . 1 have enclosed a copy of the Division of Wildlife Memo. Please respond
to each item.
E. Water - Section 8
1 . Please supply data concerning the nature of the leachate orivinatin(
from the tailing ponds and waste rock dumps. (See C. "A) .
2. Please describe the reclamation of Robinson Reservoir. if the bottom
sediments contain salt, heavy metals and/or ot`hcr toxic rntc, rirls,
hoar will they be handled? Reclamation Plan - Section 10
1. The operator should investigate salt and heavy metal movement into
the plant growth medium. The operator should also investigate plant
uptake of salt and heavy metals and their affect on plant and animal
life.
