13. Q. Climax needs to make a commitment on the
following items; a technical revision can be
submitted if research shows a need to alter
these commitments :
a . Depth of topsoil and depth of waste rock
covering tailings .
b. Uses and rates of soil amendments .
C. The species seeds and plants to be used
above and below timberline .
d . Methods , procedures and precautions during
preparation, planting and maintenance phases
of reclamation.
A. Climax ' commitments are as follows :
a. Reclamation of tailing disposal areas is
governed by the terms of our existing
permit. As noted above , the requested
amendments do not propose any change in the
size , location, or final reclamation of
these areas. Under present plans, the
minimum depth of waste rock covering the
tailing will be 3 feet. Islands of topsoil
covering the waste rock will range from 6
to 12 inches in depth. The islands will
vary in size to provide a heterogeneous
pattern , and will be scattered throughout
vegetated areas until all available topsoil
is utilized .
b. Uses and rates of soil amendments on newly-
affected areas will be as follows :
1. Diammonium phosphate ( 18 - 46 - 0 )
will be used on new disturbances with
the first seeding at a bulk rate of
400 lbs/acre .
2. Ammonium nitrate ( 33 - 0 - 0 ) will be
used for maintenance at the rate of
200 lbs ./acre .
3. Sewage sludge, when utilized , will be
applied over waste rock at the rate of
20 tons ( dry weight)/acre , minimum, or
as required with time .
-18-
