Binns, Janet <janet.binns @state.co.us> Mon, Nov 5, 2012 at 10:41 AM
To: Mary Rodriguez <mary.rodriguez @state.co.us >, Alysha Hernandez <alysha.hernandez @state.co.us>
Good Morning,
Please scan as:
Southfield C1981014
Hydrology
Other Surface Water
Landowner concern regarding Pond 5
Thank you
George and Janet,
Originally this pond was designed to allow draining of a full pond. I believe that Al Weaver used the gate to lower
the water level below the top of the standpipe in order to have some storage capacity when the pond was full.
think I remember Al opening the valve gate
after a rain, measuring the discharge volume, taking a water sample, and then sending the test results to the
State Health Department. If this was not the case, what is the purpose for the flow weir at the discharge end of
the culvert under the north embankment? In any case, when was the original design changed to allow cutting of
the operating rod, or are you saying that the rod was cut at the time of construction?
As for future use, we do not want the responsibility of trying to maintain the pond. For example, after you
cleaned out the pond and with only three mild to moderate rains this past season the south pond end is filling
quickly with silt particularly under the south culvert discharge. One or two large events will probably block that
culvert again, and we do not want the maintenance liability. In addition, according to our communication with the
State Health Department we would be required to only discharge water from this pond that meets their water
standards. How would we be able to assure the discharge quality with a gate that is always open?
We will appreciate the revised map, thank you.
Doug Corley
- -- On Sat, 11/3/12, George Patterson <efcoal ai1.co > wrote:
From: George Patterson <efcoal @gmailocom>
Subject: Re: Sediment pond gate
To: "W D Corley, Jr." <ajjc @att.net>
Date: Saturday, November 3, 2012, 5:12 PM
Doug,
That is the design so gate cannot be opened. Water, if any, is to decant into the standpipe.
https: / /mail.google.com/ mail / ?ui= 2 &ik= 4546421a5a &vievu =pt& search = inbox &th= l3ad1agedc97ab57 1/2
