activity directed towards areas of hounds tongue and whitetop. Control areas were sprayed in
August and September. A spot spray gun was used to concentrate control activities on target
areas, reducing potential impacts to adjacent desirable vegetation. The herbicide mix, based
on recommendations from the Colorado State Extension Service, was mixed and applied by a
certified commercial applicator. The weed control areas will continue to be monitored in
2012 for effectiveness and necessary retreatment. See attached 2011 Weed Control (daily)
Log and the 2011 Weed Spray Location map for a detailed description and location of the
2011 herbicide application.
• Grazing
Sheep (820 ewes) were moved on to the Yoast reclaim area for 49 days between August 1st
and September 19th. This grazing scheme resulted in a total of 268 AUMs for 2011.
Assumptions:
Five (5) sheep = 1.0 AUM
One (1) AUM requires 810 lbs. of forage
49 days (x) 820/5 animal units = 8,036 animal days ± 30 days = 268 animal unit months
(AUM)
1,800 lbs /acre (x) 798 acres = 1,436,400 lbs of forage available
810 lbs (x) 268 AUMs = 217,080 lbs of forage required
Therefore;
217,080 ± 1,436,400 (x) 100 = 15.0 % utilization of the Yoast reclaim area.
SEDIMENTATION POND SURVEYS
SCC is required by Permit C -82 -057 to monitor sedimentation ponds for sediment storage
capacities. In accordance with Rule 4.05.6(11)(c), SCC visually inspects each pond a
minimum of quarterly each year. During these inspections, any drastic change in
sedimentation storage or sudden increase in a sediment delta at the inlet to the pond could be
detected which would require mitigation.
Based on the 2011 survey, all sediment ponds have sufficient sediment storage. Additionally,
all ponds have been discharging in compliance with the approved NPDES permit effluent
limitations. Yearly sediment delivery estimates to the ponds are considerably less than
originally calculated, since significant portions of these watersheds have now been
revegetated.
The results of the annual survey are shown on Table 11.3, Sediment Pond Capacities.
STOCK TANKS
No stock tanks were constructed in 2011.
3
