Field Documentation
Surveying
October 2012
Rock sample descriptions will include information such as:
• Rock type;
• Relative hardness;
• Density;
• Texture;
• Color;
• Weathering;
• Bedding;
• Fractures, joints, bedding planes; and
• Mineralogy (e.g., observable pyrite, if present).
1 \10 \81640\ 0400\ characterizationpin_ fnl- 23octl2 \charactenzationpin_fnl- 23oct12 docx
Attorney Work Product,
Confidential and Privileged
9
103- 81640A
and allow access for water level measurement. A concrete pad, approximately 3 -foot square, sloping
away from the well, will be constructed around the protective casing. The vicinity of the well sites will be
reclaimed and re- seeded to pre - drilling conditions following well construction. Holcim will provide the
seed mix specifications for re- seeding.
A field hydrogeologist/engineer will be on site during drilling to prepare a lithologic log of each borehole as
drilling progresses. Soil descriptions will include some or all of the following:
• Descriptive USCS classification in accordance with ASTM D2488;
• Consistency of cohesive materials or apparent density of non - cohesive materials;
• Moisture content assessment, e.g., moist, wet, saturated, etc.;
• Color;
• Depositional type (alluvium, till, loess, etc.), if practical; and
• Other descriptive features (bedding characteristics, mineralization /oxidation, organic
materials, macrostructure of fine - grained soils; e.g., root holes, fractures, etc.).
As described previously, packer testing data will include all flow and pressure readings recorded on a field
form or in a field book. Also, well construction details will be documented on a well construction log.
Surveying will be performed following well construction so that groundwater elevations can be established
for monitoring flow directions and determining hydraulic gradients. Surveying activities will be performed
by a licensed surveyor and will be tied into the same coordinate system used for other surveying at the
Site. At each well location, the elevations of the ground surface and top of PVC well will be surveyed to
an accuracy of 1/100 foot.
Golder
Associates
