Pond 016 S~illw~ Certification
This report provides updated SEDCAD demonstrations and current elevations for the
embankment, principal spillway, and emergenry spillway for Pond 016. The report was
originally certified in May 2005, as part of Technical Revision No. 53, by Robert J.
Shevling, a Colorado registered professional engineer familiar with construction and
maintenance of earthen embanlffiments. This revised certification only pereains to an
incorrect reference to the As-Built Drawing, Exhibit 13-9A.
The purpose of my inspection and certification is to ensure coaect and accurate spillway
elevations based on the accompanying certified SEDCAD demonstrations.
The capacity of the Sediment Pond is attributed partially to the embankment and partially to
the pond excavation. 11me embankment construction techniques and resulting stability
analyses were previously certified and have not changed. During passage of the 10-yeaz, 24
hour storm event no flow is discharged through the emergency spillway as shown on Exhibit
13-9A and in the SEDCAD demonstrations. The structure elevations shown on Exhibit 13-
9A have been verified by physical surveying.
Pond 016 functions in conjunction with PondO16A and this system meets or exceeds the
design and performance requirements of the Colorado Mnne Land Reclamation Boazd for
Coal Miniug rules and regulations. SCC inspects the pond quarterly to evaluate structural
integrity, storage capacity conditions, and remedial work requirements in accordance with the
approved permit conditions.
To the best of my knowledge, the field adjustments made to abate CV-2005-003 aze in
conformance with the updated designs and specifications.
~s
(date)
\\\\ ~POQII IRI~C ~S ~////~
Q~; O P.~ Herj •, ~~~
.ti
~_
~~°18406~i~-
~1~~
'A L
~IIII~~
TR-56
Revised 9/06
