JD -6 Mine Environmental Protection Plan 2
1.3 Site History
In 1977, Cotter was granted permit number M- 1977 -310 for the JD -6 Mine to extract up to 70,000 tons
annually of minerals and waste rock, over a total disturbed surface acreage of 2.48 acres. The JD -6 Mine
shares a common portal, known as the Duggan Adit, with the Mineral Joe Mine which is permitted
separately under permit number M- 1977 -284.
1.4 Current and Future Activities
Development activities at the JD -6 Mine have included development drilling, radiometric scanning, and
ground support.
When ore production resumes, ore will be brought to the surface via a 2,500 ft Duggan Adit, then
transported to the temporary ore storage pad at the Mineral Joe Mine. All ore -grade material will be
trucked offsite for processing and no tailings or metallurgical processing wastes will be generated or stored
on the JD -6 Mine site.
To date, the JD -6 Mine has not encountered sufficient groundwater to require water treatment or disposal.
If sufficient groundwater is encountered in the underground mine during future operations to require
discharge, it will be treated and discharged per the requirements of a Colorado Discharge Permit.
Groundwater occurrence and quality are discussed in Section 9 of this EPP.
The current affected area includes the waste rock pile, two vent holes, two diversion structures, and a
stormwater retention pond (Map 1). Currently, 3.24 acres are included in the current affected area at the
JD -6 Mine, which represents an increase of 0.15 acres (Table 1).
Table 1. The vent holes will be sealed and the waste rock pile
will be regraded to a 3:1 slope, capped with available topsoil, and revegetated.
4148A.120927 Whetstone Associates •
