JD -6 Mine Environmental Protection Plan 58
13.2 Soil and Growth Media Stock Pile
When the JD -6 mine dump area was originally permitted, following construction of the mine waste rock
dump, no topsoil had been salvaged for use during reclamation efforts. Soil was subsequently salvaged
from the JD -6 stormwater catchment area. This soil, which is stockpiled for the JD -6 Mine reclamation, is
stored in the Mineral Joe Mine facilities area (Map 1) and has a calculated volume of 350 cubic yards.
13.3 Reseeding Specifications
The reclamation seed mix was specified by DOE for DOE uranium leasing sites. The seed mixture was
developed in consultation with BLM and is generally approved for use within the Slick Rock, Naturita,
Uravan, and Gateway, Colorado areas. Seed selection criteria were based on climate and elevation ranges
within these areas. Recognizing that surface soil conditions, nutrients, and available moisture can vary
within these areas, successful establishment of six or more of the twelve species is considered adequate. If
the total number of species seeded is less than that specified below, the seeding rates for the individual
species must be adjusted accordingly. All seed tags must be submitted to DOE for verification prior to the
seeding application.
Table 31.
