(For a list of acreages associated with each surface disturbance see Exhibit D - Mining
Plan)
The affected area is so small that partial reclamation efforts prior to permanent closure of
the mine are not practical; therefore reclamation will not begin until mining operations
have permanently ceased. It is estimated that there are enough reserves to continuously
mine SR -13A for up to 15 years. Once reclamation begins, it should be completed within
5 years. The dirt work, including backfilling, grading, sealing portal and vents and
reseeding, will take approximately 6 -12 months. Re- vegetation is expected to be
complete after 2 -3 years.
A. Mine Portals
The northern portal will have the existing bat gate re- installed. The southern
portal will use the same bat gate that is currently in place.
B. Parking Area
This area was not stripped and will only need to be ripped and reseeded.
C. Mining Buildings
All buildings will be dismantled and hauled off site and the foundations of any
permanent buildings will be broken up and placed in the portal prior to backfilling
the portal. The soil beneath the buildings will then be ripped and seeded.
D. Haulage Ramps
Haulage ramps will be ripped and seeded.
E. Ventilation Shafts
At the vent holes, all surface structures will be removed. The cement pad will be
broken up and placed into the shaft. Then the shaft will be plugged using either
polyurethane foam with a thickness of 10 feet, or concrete with a thickness of 3
feet, placed far enough down the hole that a minimum of several feet of mine
waste and one foot of soil cover can be placed on top of this plug. This cover
material will be slightly mounded so that after natural compaction, there will not
be a depression remaining to collect any surface water. This area will then be
scarified and seeded.
F. Berms and Ponds
All rainwater containment structures will be left in place in order to divert surface
runoff from contact with potential constituents associated with the waste rock and
ore pad. All runoff basins will be seeded; ditches will not.
G. Waste Rock Pile
The waste pile will be graded to mimic the existing topography using a D -6 dozer
or equivalent. The terraces will be re- sloped to reflect the original topography
and will be no steeper than 2H:1 V on the surface. Once the re- contouring is
completed, the area will be covered with available soil salvaged from the toe of
D -2
