Atmospheric conditions at the site will further limit infiltration because potential <br />evaporation exceeds precipitation. Further, the CEC of the clays will contribute to <br />sorption of uranium or other metals should seepage from the ore pad occur. <br />Ore will be rotated so that no fraction of the ore remains on the ore pad for longer than <br />180 days. Although the overall ore pad may contain ore continually, older ore will be <br />transported from the pad to make way for freshly mined ore, so that no fraction of the ore <br />remains on the ore pad for longer than 180 days. The limited duration of exposure to <br />atmospheric conditions will limit the potential for weathering, release, and transport of <br />constituents from the ore. <br />Surface water contact with the ore pad will be reduced by ditches and berms constructed <br />around the perimeter of the ore pad, as appropriate. These ditches and/or berms will <br />prevent upslope water run -on from contacting the ore. The ditches and berms will be <br />constructed to allow access by haul trucks and will be inspected and maintained regularly. <br />6.1.3.3 Groundwater <br />There is no significant groundwater at the SR -13A mine area due to insufficient <br />precipitation and high evapotranspiration rates that limit recharge to the piles. The <br />limited recharge prevents any significant quantities of water from migrating into the piles, <br />therefore limiting transport of uranium related constituents. For a full discussion of the <br />potential effect to the groundwater see below in Section 8. <br />6.1.3.4 Re vegetation <br />The waste rock pile and ore pad will be capped with soil where available and finer waste <br />material, then reseeded after mining is complete. Evaporation from the surface and the <br />shallow subsurface limits infiltration through the waste rock pile. After re- vegetation is <br />complete, evaporation coupled with plant growth will further limit infiltration. <br />(7) Facilities Evaluation <br />7.1 Containment Measures <br />A Drainage Design Plan has been developed for this site. The goal of this Drainage <br />Design Plan is to prohibit runoff from leaving the site during peak events. See Appendix <br />II - Drainage Design Plan for a full discussion of containment and diversion measures <br />including maps. <br />7.2 Environmental Protection Evaluation <br />7.2.1 Radiometric Survey <br />Cotter will conduct a site radiometric survey prior to mining in order to establish a <br />baseline of current conditions.
