G.4 Project Water Requirements
The primary water usage will be for dust control in the haulage area. An estimated ninety
days per year receive precipitation sufficient for dust control; thus 160 days will require
water application (250 work days per year). Four to six passes an average day with a
10,000 gallon water wagon would result in a yearly total of 6 -9 million gallons. An
additional 500,000 gallons would be used annually for equipment wash down. Daily
domestic water use for employees will be about 5 gallons for sanitation. This would add
another 125,000 gallons to the annual total. Sewage will be treated through an approved
septic tank and leach field system. No irrigation is planned for the reclamation phase of
operations. Total usage of 7 -10 million gallons or 21 -31 acre -feet per annum is therefore
anticipated.
G.5 Water Rights and Sources
Water for domestic use will be obtained from the Town of Naturita. No adjudicated
water rights will be injured by this project.
G.6 NPDES Permit
Cotter has a NPDES permit with the Water Quality Control Division of the Colorado
Department of Public Health and the Environment.
