H.6 Threatened or Endangered Species
There is no information to indicate that any Colorado or federally recognized threatened
or endangered species has been found year -round in the project area. The only threatened
or endangered species present is the Bald Eagle, a winter season resident in the Paradox
Valley area. The Bald Eagle has not been seen on the JD -7 site.
H.7 Impact on Wildlife
There will be a temporary loss of food habitat in both the pinion juniper woodlands and
the big sagebrush shrub land areas during the mining phases of the open pit. This
amounts to a period of about 10 years. However, there will be no permanent loss of food
and habitat within the project area as the area will be reclaimed with a vegetative cover
equal to or better than the pre- mining habitat conditions. There could be a temporary
minor interference with migratory routes due to increased human activity and temporary
loss of habitat. There will be a temporary effect on wildlife due to increased human
activity during the mining phase; however, no permanent detrimental effect for game or
non -game wildlife is expected due to the operation of the JD -7 Open Pit or Underground
operations.
JD -7 Exhibit H v7
H -4
