Wright, OSM Weather: Sunny and warm ' Comments This inspection was done in response to a citizen's complaint from the Crystal Valley Environmental Protection Association and Citizens Coal Council received by the Office of Surface Mining in Albuquerque on July 6, 1993. The State of Colorado was notified the same day, by telephone, that the inspection was to be conducted on July 7 and Larry Routten was present for the inspection. Bill Jochems and Mike Mechau of the Crystal Valley Environmental Protection Association accompanied OSM's representatives on the inspection. This complaint identified three areas for which the Crystal Valley Environmental Protection Association asked teaimminent a Osers ts These are #1) two openings caed bydemoton of structure #2) heower end of the Dutch Creek Flume and #3) two waste pile areas. The two openings created by structure removal was the first of the areas to be inspected. As a result of structure demolition shafts remain on yard above the facilities area. These are concrete lined openings with over twenty feet of vertical drop to the bottom of the structures. No barriers or warning signs had been placed around either of these, flagging around the upper of the openings was the only measure implemented by the mine.
