The sludge from pond cleaning will be removed by dragline and trucked to either the
top of the rock tunnel waste pile or to the Sutey refuse pile for disposal.
The ponds discharge at Outfall 016 into Dutch Creek. Mid-Continent will sample the
#016 effluent for aluminum during the time alum is used in the mine water.
We anticipate no need to test the pond cleaning sludge as the use of alum will not be
continuous.
Enclosed are revised pages for insertion in the permit which indicate that alum will be
used as necessary for settling in the tunnel ponds. These should be inserted in Vol. 7,
Chapter 4, replacing pages 5 and 18.
A copy of this request for minor revision is being sent to the Colorado Department of
Health, Water Quality Control Division.
Yours truly,
Diane Delaney
Mid-Continent Res.
2
