Bldg.
1313 Sherman St.
Denver, CO 80203-2273
RE: MR 28 . Placement of pond cleanings.
Dear Mr. Crick:
Mid-Continent Resources requests a minor revision to Permit C-81-
017 to allow placement of pond cleanings from the sediment ponds
at the No. I and No. 2 portals on Pad #E4.
The four ponds, designated as outfalls 018 and 022, were designed
to provide sediment control for the disturbed areas of No. 1 and
No. 2 portals during a period when these areas were used for coal
haulage. Since then, surface activity has decreased significantly
and now consists primarily of activity related to the brieden
plant. The ponds require cleaning only infrequently. During
cleaning, it is not practical to haul the cleanings of these ponds
to the Sutey pile because of the considerable distance involved.
Pad #4 was formerly a lumber storage area. It is no longer in use,
although the sediment control system remains in place. This
includes a berm around the pad and, as indicated on the attached
excerpts from Maps IT-B-7 Att. 1 (1) and (2) , drainage from the
pad is directed through the culvert under the road to the 018
ponds.
Mid--Continent does plan to clean the No. 1 and No. 2 portal area
ponds this summer, and we would, like to proceed within the month.
Your attention would be appreciated.
Yours truly,
Diane Delaney
Mid--Continent Resources
