Since that
time Mid-Continent has spent over one million dollars on environmental
concerns and has abated all violations for which they were sited. In
fact the snow pack was just as heavy in the winter of 1985 as in the
previous year, and due to the diligence because of Mid-Continent' s
efforts, no further environmental violations occurred. Therefore, we can
not see what purpose further penalties would serve.
Mid-Continent currently employs 747 people in this general area. This
part of the state is currently experiencing economic problems due to the
bust cycle of oil shale. Further penalties that could either cost
Min-Continent substantially or shut them down would only deepen the
depression of our economy.
Mid-Continent has been a good neighbor to Glenwood Springs and the
surrounding areas, not only as employers, but as a contributor to the
community and as friends of the land.
L===
one rnnDVV AVFNIIF ri.FNWOOD SPRINGS.
