<br /> <br /> <br />Doc Date:12/11/2001 <br />iii iiiiiiiiiiiii iii <br />999 <br />2.04 INFORMATION ON ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES ~~ <br />2.04.1 OBJECTIVES <br />Following is a description ofthe environmental resources within and adjacent to the Lorencito Canyon <br />Mine permit azea. <br />2.04.2 RESPONSIBILITIES <br />LCC is providing information required underthis Section to illustrate and describe the environmental <br />resources which may be affected by the Lorencito Canyon Mine. <br />2.04.3 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: SITE DESCRIPTION AND LAND <br />USE INFORMATION <br />Pre-Mine Land Use <br />The existing pre-mine land uses ofthe proposed permit area aze rangeland, wildlife habitat, and irrigated <br />cropland. Areas adjacent to the surface facil hies consist of rangeland, fish and wildlife habitat. The location <br />of these land uses are shown on Map 2.04.3-1, Pre-mining Land Use. Recent coalbed methane <br />development including the location of roads, wells and pipelines are shown on Map 2.04.3-1 a. A summary <br />of acres for the land uses within the permit boundary, and the acres to be affected within surface <br />disturbance areas, are shown in Table 2.04.3-1. <br />TABLE 2.04.3-1 <br />LORENCITO CANYON MINE <br />ACREAGE OF LAND USES TO BE AFFECTED <br />Land Use Total Permit Area <br />W ildlife/Rangeland 3,117 <br />Irrigated Cropland 25 <br />Total 3,142 <br />~~ <br />Approximately 3,117 acres of the land within the permit azea is used for wildlife habitat and rangelands. <br />Wildlife habitat is generally the dominant use on slopes which are too steep for grazing. Irrigated croplands <br />are located adjacent to the Purgatoire River and occupy an additional 25 acres. <br />Land uses adjacent [o the permit area consist ofrangeland/wildlife habitat to the south, east and west of <br />the permit area.
