Exhibit B
Site Description
Mineral Joe Mine Permit Amendment
M- 1977 -284
Vegetation Information
The pinon juniper woodland at the site consists of approximately 30% to 50% pinon pine,
and 50% to 70% Utah juniper. Most stands are not more than 20 feet tall, although some
individuals may reach 35 feet.
The tree canopy covers about 25% to 30 %, understory covers about 10 %, and the
remaining ground is bare.
The average annual production of understory vegetation is about 400 to 500 pounds per
acre.
The pifion juniper woodland typically corresponds to soil map unit symbols 23- Bodot,
dry-Ustic Torriorthents complex and 75-Pifion-Bowdish-Progresso loams.
The sagebrush park areas have an average ground cover of 40% with the remaining soil
bare.
The grasses range in height from six inches to 24 inches. The height of the sagebrush
ranges from one foot to four feet.
The average annual production is 1,100 pounds per acre.
The sagebrush park areas typically correspond to soil map unit 60- Monogram loam.
A more detailed review of the vegetation on the Mineral Joe permit site is provided in
Exhibit T — EPP.
Soils Information
The previously permitted area covers two very different soils environments: the lower
mine area on the Mineral Joe 17, 18, and 19 claims on the northern slope of Monogram
Mesa, and the existing access road and vent hole site on top of Monogram Bench.
As part of this Soils Exhibit the pertinent Soil Interpretation sheets, and Map Unit
Descriptions derived from the Web Soil Survey for the soil types in the affected areas are
attached.
The mine area consists entirely of map unit symbol 23- Bodot, dry-Ustic Torriorthents
complex with a typical profile being as follows:
0 -3 inches: Cobbly clay loam
3 -30 inches: Cobbly silty clay
30 -34 inches: Weathered bedrock
B -1
