LARIMER
COUNTY
),VrhII11.) 1 1 X(FIIFNJl
Mike Toelle
Senior Mining & Raw Materials Specialist - MPC
3500 Highway 120
Florence, CO 81226
Hi Mike,
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
• Parks & Visitor Services • Open Lands Program • Weed Management & Forestry
1800 South County Road 31
Loveland, CO 80537
(970) 679 -4570/ (970) 679 -4574 FAX
www.larimer.org /naturalresources
March 23, 2012
It looks like spring is coming early this year and I would like to propose a continuation of the weed work we've
been conducting at the Boettcher Limestone Quarry, the Dilts Quarry, the Boettcher Sandstone Quarry, and
areas adjacent to Curtis Lake. The Larimer County Weed crew has made great progress in managing noxious
weeds but there are still infestations of deep- rooted perennial species such as leafy spurge and Canada thistle
that are never completely controlled in 1 -2 seasons. With sufficient funding the crew could again survey and
spray as necessary the entire property in approximately 2 weeks time. Most of the work would be conducted
this spring, with a final sweep in the fall of 2012.
The Larimer County Weed District charges $80.00 per hour for an ATV sprayer. We propose 2 ATV
applicators surveying and spraying weed infestations systematically across the 850 acres of the Boettcher
Limestone quarry. Such a project would take 10 -12 days to complete due to the uneven terrain and the
potential for more unforeseen weed infestations. Estimated acres actually treated -15% or about 125 acres.
• Two sprayers x 6 hours per day (no charge for travel time to and from quarry) = glirday
• Prescribed treatment of /acre x approx. 10 acres /day =
• Labor + herbicide cost = - /day
• x 8 -12 days, spring 2012 = -
• 'i /day x 2 -3 days, fall 2012 = 11.110 - wish
We would continue to use Perspective herbicide, which has been very effective for control of leafy spurge and
Canada thistle. If this proposal is accepted we would start at green -up this spring, surveying and spraying leafy
spurge, Canada thistle and possibly tamarisk along some of the water -ways. Please contact me or Bobby
Goeman @ 970 - 222 -5339, for information or more detailed explanation of this proposal. I look forward to
working with you again in 2010/2011.
Tim D'Amato
Land Stewardship Manager
Larimer County Department of Natural Resources
PO Box 1190
Ft.
