below the ground surface. Four -inch diameter drain lines are
recommended.
-46-
Since the actual quantities of water which may drain from the
pile are very difficult to predict and, based on the test results, it
seems possible that no gravity drainage will occur from the pile
during its temporary storage. For this reason, it may be possible to
defer the installation of the solid drain line from the leached rock
pile to the leaching facilities until operating experience
demonstrates the necessity for this line.
BERMS AND LINERS
Earth berms should be constructed around the storage tanks and
the acid storage facilities in order to contain spills.
Embankments less than 5 feet in height may be constructed with a
homogeneous cross - section at maximum slopes of 1.5 horizontal to
1 vertical. The material placed I the dikes should be the natural
on -site soils which meet the criteria presented in the Site Grading
section.
We understand that the Gates & Fox Company, Inc. plans to install
an elastomeric membrane system which will completely cover the
concrete on the inside face of the vats and the ground surface under
vats and on the inside of the berms adjacent to the product tanks.
elastomeric system, which is produced by Chevron, is called
trial Membrane System. Our investigation of this material
`es that it has very good characteristics for the intended use.
