Gypsum is present in the near surface
portions of the Paradox Member of the Hermosa Formation, and anhydrite
0
and halite are present at greater depths. The quantities of these
materials are expected to be large; however, their quality has not
been determined. Commercial development of the gypsum, anhydrite or
halite has not taken place in the Paradox Valley.
GEOLOGIC CONDITIONS AFFECTING THE PROPOSED PROJECT
Based on the findings of our investigation, it is our opinion
that there are no geologic conditions which will make the proposed
project infeasible or create major adverse environmental impacts. The
prospect that the subsurface waste rock disposal site will have long
term geologic stability is excellent. Construction and operation of
the facility should not interfere with the future extraction of
potential mineral resources. Geologic conditions considered and their
anticipated effects on project design and operation are discussed
below.
Leaching Plant: The proposed vat leaching facility will be located on
the surface of a landslide. Our observations indicate that the slide
is probably stable at the present time. To our knowledge, there has
been no damage to existing surface facilities on the JD-5 lease or on
aa It leases which can be attributed to landslide movements.
addition, two fault zones have been encountered in the mine.
,western zone consists of a series of subparallel faults, and
:astern zone is one single fault trace. Our investigation
,;_hat the mine faults are part of a system of northwest
