RE: Response to the Division's letter of February 20, 1991.
Dear Mr. Mathews:
In your letter of February 20, 1991, you requested information on
the following several points:
Status of the water treatment plant and a commitment to
completion of the project within 60 days of resumption of
production.
Sediment pond levels, monitoring and maintenance.
Monitoring and maintenance activities during the period
of temporary cessation.
1) . As part of the approval of Technical Revision 17, providing
for installation of the water treatment plant, Mid-Continent
agreed to, and the Board approved, a schedule which requires
that the water treatment facility should be completed and
operational within 60 days of the resumption of coal
production at the site.
Work on the plant was suspended when the mine was idled on
January 25, 1991. Tom Johansen, the project engineer,
reports that most of the major components had been received,
and many had been installed. He reported that:
The pipelines connecting the mine to the preparation
plant and the discharge line from the plant to pond 020
have been constructed.
