RE: Final Report: Review of Water Chemistry da2, Mid-Continent Resources
INTRODUCTION
At your request I have reviewed some of the water chemistry data for the Mid-Continent mine
and segments of the Crystal River. I have examined the data to see if there are indications of
degradation of water quality that might affect aquatic life in the Crystal River or in Coal Creek.
In particular, I have evaluated water quality variations that might indicate contamination from
the now-flowing "Rock Tunnel" adit which was allowed to flood recently, and looked for
previously-undetected indications of contamination related to other parameters.
APPROACH
From an initial inspection of the information I found no obvious indications of water quality
degradation. The data examined include:
1. Annual Hydrology Reports submitted by Mid-Continent
2. Geochemical analyses submitted with the Annual Hydrology Reports
3. Report of analyses dated 10/6/93 from CDS Laboratories, and
4. USGS data for the Crystal River and environs.
Owing to the concern for aquatic life in the Crystal River, I relied heavily on analyses of water
from Coal Creek at station #20. This is the downstream most sampling point below the mine
