- 5 -
associated facilities need to be develcced and submitted for
inclusion in the permit. Roads ana facilities which have no
further useful purpose should be reclaimed.
Examples include the following:
- The light use road from Mine 4 over the top of Huntsman Ridge to
the subsidence monitoring monuments.
- The aline 1 , South Portal road .
- The roan 'wnicn accesses the SAT ponds below mine 1 .
- Pilot oads above cut or below fill which contribu_e to eresien
associated with Roads C and D.
"Short cut" road between Mine 2 bin pad and Mine 3, and connected
road which accesses an air vent above the Mine 3 bench.
Road to the upper fan portal from Mine 1 .
Road from Mine 5 to fan portal adjacent to the AML strip pit
reclamation project.
All such roads and the facilities they access should be C!:molet?ty
reclaimed if they are no longer needed. If still nes.de,.4 for
occasional access , such roa::sneed to be s_abilized by construction
of wa_erbars and dips and revegetation of eroding cuts and fills .
In most cases , given the nature of the roads and their infrequent
use , the road surfaces should be ripped and seeded to provide
aaditional sediment control .
Problem: General state or disrsoair and imorecer management of non coal
:paste at ocr`al si -gs ( ses 11CV C-91-022 and NCV C-31 -023)
General cleanup and main_ena„ce , along with demoiition or repair of
dilaoidated structures is needed at the various portal site: .
Specific plans and timetables addressing waste management and
general site maintenance should be incorporated into the permit.
Problem:
Sedime^tation from mine bench downslooes
Contributing factors :
- Long, steeo , unvegetated slooes
- Avalanche chutes
- Snow removal - material pushed over downslooes
- Limited availability of suitable sites for sediment pond
constr uc.ion
The current operations and reclamation plan for the portal bench
downslcpes calls for no gracing , revegetation or other
stabilization measures to be aoolied prior to final reclamation .
Unless final reclamation is to be implemented within the next year,
plans addressing interim stabilization and sediment control for
the portal bench downslopes will need to be included in the permit
revision application.
Mine
