This figure was developed
by Mid-Continent over a number of years apparently by estimating
the total number to be about 400 when we initially prepared our
permit application in 1979-80. Since then we have added to or
subtracted from that number as new areas were disturbed or
previously disturbed areas were reclaimed. By this method we
arrived at the number of 432 acres by the mid-term review period.
A recent detailed calculation of disturbed acres in Coal
Basin indicates that the total number is 283. 3 rather than 432
(see table below) . We simply never went back and checked the
original (1979-80) figures until now.
DISTURBED LANDS
COAL BASIN
Disturbed Area Acres
Locations Pads Roads
No. 1 Mine 5. 6 32 . 5
No. 2 Mine 7. 7 3. 9
No. 3 Mine 7. 4 27 . 5
No. 4 Mine 2. 9 22 . 0
No. 5 Mine 11. 5 25 . 3
Tunnel to Prep Plant 39. 6 0. 0
Wash Plant Area 51. 2 0. 0
Old Refuse Pile 13. 6 0. 0
New Refuse Pile 24. 1 1. 1
Exploration Drill Road 7 . 4
Sub-Totals 163. 6 119. 7
TOTAL 283. 3 Acres
